2018 Master Plan Update

The Algoma Township Master Plan has been prepared by the Township Planning Commission and approved by the Township Board under the provisions of the Michigan Planning Enabling Act (Act 33 of 2008).  The Planning Enabling Act authorizes townships to prepare and adopt a plan for unincorporated areas of the Township.  The purpose of that plan is to:

  • promote the public health, safety and general welfare;
  • encourage the use of resources in accordance with their character and adaptability;
  • avoid overcrowding of the land by buildings and people;
  • lessen congestion on public roads and streets;
  • facilitate a transportation system, sewage disposal, safe and adequate water supply, recreation and other public improvements; and,
  • consider the township's character and suitability for particular uses, including preservation of open space and rural character of the Township.
