Summer taxes are sent out by July 1, and are payable July 1 through September 15 without penalty or interest. Partial Payments are accepted. Beginning September 16 through September 30 a 1% interest charge will be added. An additional 1% per month will be added on the 1st day of each month to the unpaid balance.
Application for Deferment of Summer Taxes
The law provides that beginning September 15, a 1% interest be paid. However, these taxes may be deferred without penalty until February 15, for any taxpayer who is a senior citizen 62 years or older, totally and permanently disable, or otherwise eligible whose household income does not exceed $40,000 per year. Applications for the deferment are available at the Treasurer’s Office or by download when selecting the title above. Deferments must be completed annually and returned to our office by September 15.
Winter taxes are mailed out by December 1 and are payable December 1 through February 14 without penalty or interest. Partial payments are accepted. Beginning February 15 a 3% penalty will be added. On March 1 all real taxes must be paid to the Kent County Treasurer; 300 Monroe Ave., Grand Rapids. Mailing: PO Box Y Grand Rapids, 49501. A 4% administration fee and 1% interest per month is applied to the delinquent taxes paid at the County (616) 632-7500.
After receiving your bill review it carefully. Please make sure that your Principle Residence Exemption (PRE) percentage is correct. If a correction is needed, please call the Assessor, Jason Rosenzweig (616) 866-1583.
Tax receipts can be printed from the View or Print Tax Information page or are available via email, fax or mail for taxes paid in the current year or for any previous year. There is no charge to the homeowner for requesting tax receipts. Please call the Treasurer’s Office to request the information.
